The museum is housed in a former St. Rita’s Catholic Church built in 1899. With a preservation mindset, the community came together, and with the aid of State resources, restored the building and established a community museum that opened in 1999. Today, the exhibits along with supporting documents, artifacts, oral histories, photos, and other archival materials, provide a glimpse into the life and history of African Americans in Southeast Volusia and beyond.
